Innovative Techniques Using Japanese Saws and Jigs

Woodworking Joinery by Hand is a ground-breaking woodworking book that introduces a new twist on the traditional hand-cut methods of joint making. With Sugita's unique method of guiding and controlling the saw blade using jigs and magnetic sheets, even a complete beginner can learn advanced joint-making techniques with hand tools alone. Making it easy to produce straight and square cuts, this pioneering technique is a game-changer for producing high-precision, beautifully made wooden joints.
At the age of 28, Toyohisa Sugita began building his own 28ft (9m) cruising yacht. It took five and a half years to complete and launch. This experience was the starting point for his woodworking career. Since then, he has developed, manufactured and sold woodworking products; produced and sold woodworking videos and is currently a Lie-Nielsen distributor. He is the author of Super Epoch-making Woodworking Techniques (Studio Tuck Creative) and All About Sugita-style Sawing Wood (Ohm-sha), which advocates 'Sugita-style' sawing, meaning a precision woodworking technique that requires almost no power tools. Toyohisa lives in Tokyo, Japan.
Review Quote:
"I tend to shy away from books that have step-by-step picture instructions. Why? Because often the pictures are poorly designed, and don't really tell the construction story as they should. But I was pleasantly surprised because this book did it right! ...Sugita seems to clearly understand how to explain the basics of Japanese joinery using a simple list of tools. He understands even more the importance of well-presented, informative photographs." --Working by Hand
